In the past, when smartphones weren't invented, it was a nightmare to transfer the data to your new phone. Even though that data consisted only in phone books, it was extremely hard to insert all the phone numbers / names, using the numerical keypad. Because there was no other solution, the developers were advising us to save our contacts directly in the SIM memory, but that memory was limited as well. In those times, it would have been rather impossible for a person with 5000 contacts, to insert them manually.
This is when the CDMA providers appeared. They were ensuring an automatic data transfer between the two phones, for a generous fee. Still, because there was no other option, many people chose this transfer method. The appearance of digital syncing was pure gold for mobile phone users, because they were now benefiting from an improved transfer method. Syncing became so popular that many platforms used the feature as a core app. Still, the problem remains. Even though we can sync our data, it's still hard to insert new data, using our phones. The QWERTY keyboard made things a lot easier, but still, that's not enough. This issue will be solved when data entry will be more mobile friendly and more effective.
